Erik van Dijk
CEO

Erik has previously worked for 10 years at Philips in various parts of the business and in different roles, most recently at Philips Healthcare in R&D management. Since his start at EasyScan in 2015 he headed the operations (supply chain/technical support) and R&D team and in 2017, Erik became the CEO. Erik has a PhD in Physics from the University of Twente.

    

Dennis den Hartog
CFO

Dennis has a background in accountancy, started his career at PwC, followed by an entrepreneurship in accounting and financial advice and joined the company in 2012 to set up the Finance / HR administration and to prepare the company for business growth. Dennis has a Bachelor in Economics from the Haagsche Hogeschool

An OCT scanner uses an infrared laser to detect the reflections from the different layers in the retina. By measuring at each point by point the depth of the reflections it is possible to build a map of the different layers in the retina. To analyze the data one usually scrolls through the cross-sections to detect any changes in the thickness of the different layers. This is perfect to quantify and monitor the progression of different retinal diseases but is complicated and tedious. Furthermore, the area that can be measured in one scan is limited (FOV=10⁰-30⁰), this makes an OCT less suited for quick screening.
The EasyScan also uses an infrared laser to image the lower layers of the retina (all the way to the RPE) but presents the results in a large (>45⁰) easy to interpret and explain 2D image. This is ideal for quickly and easily detecting retinal changes.

•A normal fundus camera use white led source (often LED) to illuminate the full retina and then images the reflected light with a CCD camera. The disadvantage is that it is difficult to get sufficient light onto the retina, this requires larger (>3.8mm) pupils, to function and often the image quality is limited by spurious reflections from for example the cornia.
The SLO technology used in the EasyScan circumvents these problems. The image is build up by scanning a line of laser light over the retina and image that on a line sensor. This optical design is more efficient and allows imaging through very small pupils (1.5mm). Furthermore, only the light reflected from the retina is detected, resulting in clear and more high contrast images.

The idea for the EasyScan originates from the TU-Delft in the Netherlands. All EasyScan are engineered, built and assembled in the Netherlands.

No, the EasyScan software use to control the device runs best on normal PC. That said, we do have various options available to allow it to fit in various different situations.

The relevant parameter is the optical resolution or the resolving power of the EasyScan. This means what are the smallest objects that can be detected? That is for the EasyScan 15µm and is determined by the optical system of the device but also the eye it self. What does this value mean? This means when can for example still image the smallest blood vessels near the macula, see picture below. This is critical to be able to detect the subtlest changes easily.

The Standard warranty is 1 year , but it can be extended either at purchase or at the end of warranty period.
